| In a presentation to students in Chile, Andrew Hessel, head of the Biotechnology and Bioinformatics track at Singularity University, encourages the study of biology. Hessel predicts that biotech is where the apps of the 21st century will be most innovative and shape our future. |
Recently Hessel coordinated SU's biotech incubator program, SynBio Launchpad. The SynBio Startup Launchpad will nurture aspiring biotech entrepreneurs seeking to apply the rapid-cycle, low-cost approaches. According to Hessel, synthetic biology is genetic engineering using software-based design tools coupled with low-cost DNA synthesis and assembly.
Embedded below is Hessel's presentation at the seminar "Exponential Technologies To Solve The Great Problems of Humanity", conference at the Innovation Centre Innova in March 2012.
